The Boonville Pirates football team have been perfect so far after three games for the 2024 season.While beating Clinton 27-14 in the season opener and then following it up with a 47-0 shutout against the Marshall Owls in Week 2, the Pirates had perhaps their biggest test of the season last week on the road against the Hallsville Indians 34-32.Of course, the game Friday night against the Southern Boone Eagles will be the biggest game of the season thus far for Boonville.
The Pilot Grove Lady Tigers softball team picked up its second win of the season and first in the Central Activities Conference by beating the Sturgeon Bulldogs 7-4.Pilot Grove coach Avery Reardon said he was incredibly proud of how the team came out and played last night against Sturgeon.
The Boonville Lady Pirates golf finished fifth out of 14 teams during the Marshall Invitational Tuesday at Indian Foothills Golf Course in Marshall.Eldon captured first in the tournament with a team score of 352 while California placed second at 377, Smith-Cotton third at 385, Blair Oaks fourth at 399 and Boonville fifth at 402.Boonville golf coach Rob VanderLinden said the Tri-County Conference dominated the hardware taken home.
The Boonville Lady Pirates volleyball team fell in three sets Tuesday night on the road against School of the Osage 15-25, 24-26 and 19-25.While dropping to 5-6 overall and 0-3 in the Tri-County Conference, head coach Joedi Herzog said the girls played with Osage in all three sets but just fell short.
The Boonville Lady Pirates tennis team had what head coach Melissa Harvey calls another tough night in a 7-2 loss against the Higginsville Lady Huskers Tuesday at Higginsville.The Lady Pirates, dropping to 0-4 on the season, dropped two out of three doubles matches against Higginsville and five out of six singles matches on the night.“We had a lot of long rallies, but just didn’t outlast Lafeyette’s stamina,” Harvey said.
The Boonville Pirates soccer team couldn’t have played any better for a half Tuesday night while trailing the Battle Spartans 2-1.However, in the second half, Boonville soccer coach Alec Adair said the Pirates just ran out of gas as Battle scored seven unanswered goals for a 9-1 victory.“The boys thought through a lot tonight,” Adair said.
The New Franklin girls’ softball team had a tough loss Tuesday night on the road against the Fayette Lady Falcons 3-1.The Lady Bulldogs, dropping to 10-2 on the season, entered the game with an eight-game win streak but had that snapped by Fayette, who had already lost to New Franklin 13-4 in the third-place game in the Lady Pirate Lead-Off Classic back on August 31.
The Prairie Home boys’ and girls’ middle school basketball teams opened the 2024 season with wins Tuesday night by beating the Bunceton Dragons 32-19 and 42-7, respectively.In the girl’s game, Prairie Home led Bunceton 22-5 at the half and then outscored the Lady Dragons 20-2 in the second half.Avery Sullard led the scoring attack in the game for Prairie Home with 11 points while Brielle Brielle chipped in 10, Ruth Hodges with nine, An’Maya Henderson with six and Jamieson Morrow, Brooklynn Adams and Grace King each with two.
