The White House from 1792-1930

The White House is one of the most well-known homes in the world. Designed by James Hoban, its construction began 232 years ago when the first cornerstone was laid on October 13, 1792. It took eight years to build and was originally called the President’s Palace or Executive Mansion. President John Adams moved in on November 1, 1800, just four months before Thomas Jefferson was sworn in as the next President.
