JEFFERSON CITY, Mo – The rest areas on Interstate 70 at mile marker 104 near Boonville in Cooper County will temporarily close for several months for renovations. Both the buildings and the areas for car parking will be closed, but the truck parking areas will remain open with no facilities.
JEFFERSON CITY — The federal REAL ID enforcement deadline of May 7, 2025, is less than four months away. Currently, 41 percent of the Missouri Department of Revenue’s total document holders have a REAL ID. While a final rule issued at the federal level allows federal agencies to utilize a phased-in approach to card-based enforcement for up to two years beyond the May 7 deadline, the Department is encouraging Missourians to be prepared for all possible scenarios.

Article 2, Section 2 of the Constitution states that the President “may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices...” With this authority, President George Washington developed the cabinet system in 1789 when he asked the heads of the existing three executive departments and the Attorney General to meet with him on a regular basis. The purpose was to discuss important issues and to report on their department’s work. The first four Cabinet members were Secretary of State, Thomas Jefferson; Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton; Secretary of War, Henry Knox; and Attorney General Edmund Randolph.
The winter weather that prevented kids from returning to classes as scheduled, also prevented the school district faculty staff from partaking in drills for active intruders during their professional development day.
