Driftwood Outdoors: First day hikes

Exercise and fresh air are good for you. Reason enough to go for a hike. It’s the intangibles though, that make hiking such an enjoyable experience. You never know what you’re going to see while taking a walk in the woods. Carrying a pair of binoculars is worth the weight. So is your phone, which gives you both a camera and a voice recorder. As you walk and think, use the recorder to capture your thoughts. Lots of good ideas come to us on the trail as we exercise our minds and body.

Local Student Named To Mvc’s Fall 2021 Dean’s List

MARSHALL, Mo. (December 17, 2021) - Dr. Diane Bartholomew, vice president of academic affairs for Missouri Valley College, has announced the Fall 2021 Dean’s List. The requirements for the Dean’s List are a 3.3 or higher grade point average; at least 12 graded hours for the semester and no “D,” “F,” or “Incomplete” grades for the semester. Bunceton Ends First Semester With Symmetry, Suds and Santa

Bunceton School pre-kindergarten through 5th grade participated in a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) event held the last day before Christmas break on Dec. 17th. More than 50 students folded and cut squares that resulted in beautiful snowflakes; mixed together hydrogen peroxide, yeast and soap to make an expanding foamy substance organizers called “Reindeer Toothpaste;” and put together a three-foot tall Santa puzzle.

Patrol Addresses Cold Weather Water Safety

Winter temperatures have arrived and that means the water temperature of Missouri’s lakes and rivers is becoming colder. In some areas of the state, ice has begun to form on smaller bodies of water. If you have plans to be near or on one of the state’s lakes or rivers, or a private pond — the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) asks that you — be careful and stay alert.
