Construction began on what The San Francisco Chronicle later referred to as a $35-million steel harp on January 5, 1933. Four years later the Golden Gate Bridge was completed. At the time, its 8,980 feet connected the mile-wide distance between San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean and had the longest suspension span of any bridge in the world.
The Class of 2029 was promoted from fifth grade at David Barton Elementary on Thursday, May 19. The fifth grade band, which makes up 75% of the entire class, gave a concert to those in the audience to show how much they have improved since beginning on their instruments in October.

Thespian Hall was alive with folk music last weekend as the Big Muddy Folk Festival returned for 2022. Trying to get back on track after the COVID pandemic, the committee agreed that holding the Big Muddy on its regularly scheduled weekend in April was too soon after the 2021 performances in November.
Walnut Grove Cemetery will be closed to vehicle traffic beginning on Saturday, May 28 at 8 a.m. to allow a greater number of people into the cemetery to decorate the graves of their loved ones for Memorial Day.
Not many people can be credited for developing an entire industry. Ray Scott is one of the few. He built bass fishing into what it is today – NASCAR of the outdoors. Scott is the father of competitive fishing and paved the way for untold amounts of business around bass angling. He was larger than life, but made everyone he met feel like friend. Scott passed away on Sunday, May 8 at11:30 p.m. He was 88 years old.
