How Memorial Day came to be

John Alexander Logan was born near Murphysboro, Illinois, on February 9, 1826, the son of Dr. John Logan and his second wife, Elizabeth (Jenkins) Logan. He enlisted during the Mexican-American war and was comissioned a second lieutenant. Following the war Logan studied law, graduated from the University of Louisville’s law department in 1851, and began a successful law practice.

Capitol Report: Missouri House Wraps Up Highly Productive Legislative Session

After nearly five months of hard work and numerous negotiations and compromises, we in the General Assembly wrapped up the 2022 legislative session with a long list of substantive policy wins for Missouri families and businesses. Exactly how things would end up was a guess, right down to the last minute after the Senate adjourned one day early. We in the House worked to nearly the very end and adjourned with one hour to spare on the last day.

LOUIS (May 26, 2022): This June 11-12, Warm Springs Ranch – the 300-plus-acre breeding farm of the Budweiser Clydesdales in Boonville, Missouri – will host The Mane Event: a rare, behind-the-scenes glimpse of the Budweiser Clydesdales East Coast Hitch as it returns for a brief stop between touring events. Doors open both days at 9:30 a.m. at the Ranch, and activities will run until 3pm.

Pandemic has lingering toll on smaller National Spelling Bee

Dev Shah’s dream of returning to the Scripps National Spelling Bee ended in a soccer stadium, of all places. On a cool, windy February day with occasional rain showers, Dev spent five miserable hours spelling outdoors at Exploria Stadium, the home of Major League Soccer’s Orlando City club, ultimately finishing fourth in a regional bee that he was forced to compete in for the first time.
