Back to School Bash draws a crowd

For the eighth year, the Boonville Kiwanis Club handed out school supplies to area children in kindergarten through fifth grade. On Sunday, August 14, the Kiwanis club, along with Central Missouri Community Action, Impact Activity Center, and the Thomas-Tuttle Post #52 of the American Legion convened at Lions Park for the Back to School Bash.

Missouri voters to weigh forgiveness for past weed crimes

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Missouri could become the first state to pass a voter-led effort to require courts to automatically forgive past marijuana crimes as part of a constitutional amendment to legalize recreational pot on November’s ballot. Of the 19 states where recreational marijuana is legal, only seven states require some sort of judicial forgiveness for those punished for committing crimes that have since been decriminalized, according to the advocacy group National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.

Boonville schools refreshed before students start coming back

The buildings in the Boonville R-1 School District have had many projects undertaken before the start of the school year on August 23. Boonville Schools Assistant Superintendent Fred Smith said, “it’s a very busy time of year.” District-wide there were three HVAC units replaced as well as the replacement of the David Barton kitchen rooftop unit.
