The Missouri 4-H Shooting Sports State Archery Team recently held their monthly practice at The Shootin’ Shack, a new indoor archery range in Boonville. The 4-H state archery team consists of nine 4-H archers from across the state. The team is made up of four people who shoot recurve bows and four who shoot compound bows, there is also an alternate member who could step up to fill a team member’s position if they were injured or unable to compete. The Missouri 4-H Archery Team was selected by a statewide tryout process in October 2021, and they will travel to Grand Island, Nebraska, to compete in the National 4-H Shooting Sports Championship, which runs from June 26th to July 1st ,2022. In preparation for the national championship, the team spends the eight months between tryouts and the trip to Nebraska practicing both together as a team and individually. The team members and coaches come together at least once a month for a two-day, weekend practice; each of the members also practice on their own as much as they can.
