LVIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused the West of cowardice as his country fights to stave off Russia’s invading troops, making an exasperated plea for fighter jets and tanks to sustain a defense as the war ground into a battle of attrition.

Pirates fall short against Class 6 Hickman, 10-9

The Boonville Pirates baseball team is getting closer to playing a complete game. After giving Columbia Hickman a seven-run cushion after four complete innings, the Pirates rallied back with a seven-run sixth inning to tie the game at 9-all.

Pilot Grove finishes 1-1 in doubleheader at Versailles

The Pilot Grove baseball team once again showed its toughness Saturday while competing against Versailles and Sturgeon at the Versailles Ball Field. After dropping a winnable game in the opener against Versailles 5-1, the Tigers came back to beat conference-rival Sturgeon in the second game by a score of 6-0.

Academic All-State, Hahn named Class 2 District 2 WOY

Boonville seniors Luke Green and Addi Brownfield were recently selected to the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Academic All-State Team for the 2021-22 season. Both starters for the Pirates and Lady Pirates basketball teams, the MBCA honors the top scholar athletes each spring. The individual being nominated to academic all-state must meeting the following qualifications such as player in good standing with team, possesses outstanding moral character, has one or more of the following verified minimum scores, ACT score of 27 composite or above, SAT score of 1920 composite or above, PSAT score of 185 selection index or more, and qualify with a grade point average of 3.25 out of possible 4.0 (or equivalent grade scale). Brownfield finished the season averaging 24.0 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 5.1 spg and 4.7 apg for the Lady Pirates. Green, meanwhile, finished the season with 11.6 ppg along with 5.6 rpg, 2.4 apg and 1.2 apg.

NW Missouri St. beats Augusta for 3rd straight D-II title

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Trevor Hudgins hit five 3-pointers and finished with 31 points to help fifth-seeded Northwest Missouri State beat Augusta 67-58 Saturday and the Bearcats became the first program in history to win three consecutive Division II national championships.

Boonville C Team picks up split against Blair Oaks

The Boonville Pirates C Baseball Team picked up a split Saturday in Wardsville against the Blair Oaks Falcons. According to Boonville Pirates baseball coach Greg Hough, the Pirates dropped the first game 4-0 but came back to win the second game by a score of 18-9.
