After playing a doubleheader the night before in the cold on Wednesday, the Boonville Pirates baseball returned for a single game on Thursday against Father Tolton in the West Central Missouri Baseball Tournament hosted by Smith-Cotton and Warrensburg High School.
Boonville girls’ soccer coach Alec Adair said it’s unfortunate not being able to get one of two 2-0 games over the weekend in the Moberly Spartan Invitational. Although the Lady Pirates dropped all three games, losing to Battle 2-0 on Friday, Kirksville and Mexico 5-0 and 2-0, respectively, on Saturday, Adair said the girls were in each game.
Boonville Pirates golf coach Rob VanderLinden said in the history of the Boonville Masters Golf Tournament at Hail Ridge, the golfers have had probably one year of good weather. Thursday’s tournament wasn’t one of those days as temperatures plummeted into the low 40s with rain and sometimes sleet., “Miserable day for golf,” stated VanderLinden.
New Franklin baseball coach Erich Gerding described Friday’s 7-6 loss in nine innings against Salisbury as a gut punch for the Bulldogs. While the Bulldogs fell the night before against Northeast of Cairo 4-3 in eight innings, Gerding said the loss against Salisbury was definitely a tough one to swallow.
The Pilot Grove Tigers baseball team knew Thursday night’s game against the Madison Panthers was big if they wanted to remain undefeated in the Central Activities Conference. Although the Tigers have yet to play New Franklin, Cairo and Sturgeon-three of the tougher teams in the CAC-head coach Joe Vossler said he expected that a lot of strikes would be important in this game.
Due to lack of returning players not signing up and need of managers and coaches, Junior Babe Ruth tryouts for new players, which was scheduled for Sunday, April 10, has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 24 at 2 p.m. at Twillman Field in Harley Park.

While the Lady Pirates fell to Oak Grove 8-0, dropping them to 0-3 on the season, head coach Alec Adair said Monday’s game was another tough one to swallow.
After having two meets cancelled, the New Franklin boys and girls track teams were finally able to see where they stack up against other teams Tuesday during the Cairo Relays. And as expected, the Bulldogs more than held their own by recording four first place finishes and six second place finishes.
