After two seasons of leading the Bowling Green girls’ basketball team, Jared Runyon will now head the Boonville Lady Pirates basketball team after being named head coach on Friday. Runyon will take over for former head coach Jaryt Hunziker, who accepted the same position at Osage High School.

The Boonville Pirates golf team couldn’t have scripted the end of the season match Thursday at Hail Ridge Golf Course any better. While hosting the Versailles Tigers in the final tune up before districts on Monday, the Pirates not only finished 10 strokes better than Versailles 182-19-2 but also had the meet medalist as freshman Zack Espey shot a 6-under par 41 on the front nine.
The Boonville girls’ soccer team faced perhaps its stiffest competition of the season Thursday night on the road against the Sedalia Smith-Cotton Tigers. Although the Lady Pirates (0-15) have battled tooth and nail all season long and have been on the threshold of winning their first game numerous times in 2022, Smith-Cotton proved to be to big of a match while leading from start to finish for an 8-0 victory.
Cal Ripken President Mike Watts said Saturday’s opening day in Cal Ripken Minor and Major was a wonderful success. With three games in Minor and three in Major for over 12 hours of baseball at the COCOBA Ball Field, Watts said anytime you get all your games in on opening day it has to be a success.
The Pilot Grove baseball team knows all about back and forth games this season. In a back and forth game Thursday at home against Westran, the Tigers scored two runs in the top half of the ninth to beat the Hornets 10-9.
The New Franklin boys and girls track team had the perfect tune up before Saturday’s district track meet by competing in the Larry Littrell Invitational Thursday in Glasgow. While the Bulldogs return to Glasgow on Saturday, May 7th for districts, head coach Adam Quest couldn’t have been more pleased with the results after returning with 11 place finishers in the top four.
New Franklin, Prairie Home and Pilot Grove will have athletes moving on to sectionals after placing in the top four over the weekend during the Class 1 District 2 Track Meet at Glasgow High School. For New Franklin, the Bulldogs will have eight athletes moving on in eight events.
The St. Louis Brown Stockings and the Topeka Westerns returned to Twillman Field and Harley Park Saturday for a game of good old fashion baseball 1860s style.
The Pilot Grove JV baseball team bounced back from two straight losses to pick up a win against Osage in the California JV Tournament over the weekend. While finishing the tournament at 1-2 overall, Pilot Grove fell to Mexico 12-0 in five innings on Friday and then lost to Tuscumbia 8-0 in the first game on Saturday.
