Cooper County Fair royalty contests open for registration

The 2022 Cooper County Fair Queen as well as Prince and Princess contests are open for registration. To be eligible to run for fair queen, contestants must be female, never married, and residents of Cooper County for at least 6 months or graduated from a Cooper County high school. They must be between the ages of 17 and 22 years of age as of September 1, 2022 and a high school graduate. All contestants must be sponsored by a youth organization, such as FFA, 4-H, or church youth group, but need not be a member of said organization.

The CCSB 14U team completed their softball season at Osage Beach on June 28th with a win. They had a great team winning seven games and losing four games. Members of the team were Milly Waller, Lynlee Dicus, Riley Arnold, Josie Long, Aubrey Thompson, Stella Rhode, Myah West, Kaylee Kuschel, Justice Case, Kynna Knapheide, and Mahayla Rambo. They were coached by Tasha Knapheide and Angie Rambo.

Best Sauce on the Planet correction

In June, it was reported that Terry Smith won the American Royal World Series of Barbeque Sauce Contest and title of Best Sauce on the Planet with his Augie’s Sweet and Smokey Sauce. In fact, it was a new sauce, K.C. Pitmaster, that took home the title. Terry currently has three sauces and one seasoning available at local retailers. The paper apologizes to Mr. Smith for the error.

Boonville Police Department seeking the public’s help

The Boonville Police Department is seeking help from the community to identify persons for questioning regarding the theft of a motor vehicle. The theft was committed on Sunday June 26 at approximately 4:50 a.m. near the intersection of 1st Street and Morgan Street. Jackson sworn in, becomes 1st Black woman on Supreme Court

WASHINGTON (AP) — Ketanji Brown Jackson was sworn in to the Supreme Court on Thursday, shattering a glass ceiling as the first Black woman on the nation’s highest court. The 51-year-old Jackson is the court’s 116th justice, and she took the place of the justice she once worked for.

Prairie Home Fair wraps up a week full of activity

The 107th Annual Prairie Home fair wrapped up on Saturday June 25 after days of livestock shows, horse shows, and tractor pulls, both full-size and garden variety. The grounds were filled each day and night with exhibitors and visitors alike who came out to experience one of the greatest little fairs in Central Missouri.

Alpine glacier chunk detaches, killing at least 6 hikers

ROME (AP) — A large chunk of an Alpine glacier broke loose Sunday afternoon and roared down a mountainside in Italy, sending ice, snow and rock slamming into hikers on a popular trail on the peak and killing at least six and injuring eight, authorities said.
