Boonville 9 All-Stars finish 2-1 in Cal Ripken State Tournament

The Boonville 9-year-old All-Stars proved to be one of the best teams after pool play on Saturday in the Cal Ripken 9-year-old State Tournament in Dexter, Missouri. While finishing in a three-way tie for first place in the Cal Division with Dexter Titans and Sikeston at 2-1, the Boonville 9 All-Stars wound up missing out on bracket play on Saturday after going to the tiebreaker-which put Dexter Titans and Sikeston ahead of Boonville based on runs allowed.

Watts fulfills bet with Boonville 12 All-Stars

Cooper County Baseball Association President Mike Watts got a trim as part of a bet he made with the Boonville 12-year-old All-Stars during the Cal Ripken State Tournament on Sunday, July 10. Watts got the buzz last Wednesday at the COCOBA Ball Field. Watts said before Sunday’s semifinal game against Carthage several players came up to him and asked that if they won state would he agree to wear shoes for the rest of the month. “I said I can’t guarantee I can do that because I run around everywhere barefoot, so I said is there anything else I can do,” Watts said. “Somebody came up with up with the idea of shaving my head, so I said if they win state do I will do that. During the ceremony of handing out the medals everyone of the players were making a buzzing noise. It was just a fun thing to do.” The Boonville 12 All-Stars won the state title by beating MABA American 8-2 in the championship game.
