Cooper County Baseball Association President Mike Watts got a trim as part of a bet he made with the Boonville 12-year-old All-Stars during the Cal Ripken State Tournament on Sunday, July 10. Watts got the buzz last Wednesday at the COCOBA Ball Field. Watts said before Sunday’s semifinal game against Carthage several players came up to him and asked that if they won state would he agree to wear shoes for the rest of the month. “I said I can’t guarantee I can do that because I run around everywhere barefoot, so I said is there anything else I can do,” Watts said. “Somebody came up with up with the idea of shaving my head, so I said if they win state do I will do that. During the ceremony of handing out the medals everyone of the players were making a buzzing noise. It was just a fun thing to do.” The Boonville 12 All-Stars won the state title by beating MABA American 8-2 in the championship game. The Boonville 12s will now advance to the Cal Ripken World Series on August 5-13 in Branson, Missouri. (Submitted photo)
