Lady Tigers win in 9 innings against California, 3-2

The Pilot Grove Lady Tigers softball team picked up a signature win at home Thursday night by beating Class 3 California 3-2 in nine innings. The Lady Tigers, improving to 7-6 on the season, led California 2-1 after the third but then surrendered one run in the top half of the fifth for a 2-2 tie.

Roy Lee Cary, 78, of Boonville passed away surrounded by his family, Friday, September 23, 2022, at Boone Hospital Center. Visitation for Roy will be Wednesday, September 28, 2022, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Boonville. A Masonic Service and Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Roy Lee Cary was born November 26, 1943, in Boonville, Missouri to Earl Carlos Cary and Ruth Marie (Cartner) Cary. He graduated from Boonville High School in 1961. Roy married Janice Wilmsmeyer in 2004 at the Evangelical United Church of Christ, where they are active members. Roy was active in his community, always helping someone in need. He was active in the Bikes 4 Books program. He donated to and chaired many fundraisers. He was always helping raise money for the Shriners Hospital for Children, and many other charities. Roy was a member of the United Church of Christ, Mt. Herman Baptist Church, Cooper Lodge #36, Ararat Shrine in Kansas City, Aleppo Grotto, Past Master Club and Thurmon Club, Scottish Rite and Sword of Bunker Hill, York Rite and Kentucky Colonels and Lodge of Research. He served on many boards including the Bunceton School Board and Bunceton Lions Club. He was Masonic Home Representative of the year and helped rebuild the lodge and all its history being presented there. Roy served in the Army National Guard for six and a half years. He always gave his all. Roy was a kindhearted man who was loved by everyone and will be so dearly missed. “In life, people come and go, but friends are forever.” ~Roy Cary Roy is preceded in death by his parents Earl Carlos and Ruth Marie (Cartner) Cary, brothers Earl K. and Robert Cary. Lady Pirates capture first in California Tournament for third year in a row

The Boonville Lady Pirates golf team was back at it Tuesday while competing in the California Invitational at California Country Club and once again the Lady Pirates finished first overall with another record setting day for an 18 hole tournament. With a total of eight schools participating in the tournament, Boonville beat arch-rival Osage for the first time this season 336-343.

Lady Pirates struggle defensively in 15-7 loss to Battle Spartans

Boonville girls’ softball coach Christie Zoeller said errors took the Lady Pirates completely out of the game Tuesday night in a 15-7 loss to the Battle Spartans. While dropping to 8-10 on the season, Zoeller said the team committed a total of nine errors and there is simply no way to come back from that.

The Pilot Grove baseball team broke a 1-1 tie after 2 ½ by outscoring Jamestown 8-6 for the rest of the game for a 9-7 win Tuesday night in Jamestown. The Tigers, improving to 9-1 on the season, scored three runs in the third and five again in the fifth to lead the Eagles 9-5 after five.
