Pirates drop close match against Stover, 2-1

Boonville boys’ soccer coach Alec Adair knew his team had a chance Thursday night at home against the Stover Bulldogs at the Boonville City Soccer Fields. With a strong finish over the weekend in the Moberly Invitational, Adair felt his team had a little momentum going into the game against Stover.

Leonard steps up big for Pirates in 28-12 win over California

When the going got tough, Boonville junior running back Rhodes Leonard got going for the Pirates while recording his first touchdown and 100 yard game of the season Friday night in a 28-12 win over the California Pintos at Gene Reagan Field. While finishing with 17 carries for 104 yards and one touchdown, Leonard said after the game that he knew he had to step it up because of playing under the lights on Homecoming and also for teammate Dakota Troost, who was out for the third straight game with a hip injury.

Boonville, New Franklin compete in Moberly Invitational

The Boonville boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams had its best meet of the season Thursday while competing in the Moberly Invitational at Howard Hills Sports Complex. With over 300 runners in the varsity division alone, Boonville assistant coach Becky Eckerle said runners are always excited to run in Moberly and they usually put up some of their best times.

New Franklin goes 2-1 in La Plata Tournament

New Franklin girls’ softball coach Samantha Crowley said she was very happy with the day while finishing 2-1 over the weekend in the La Plata Tournament. While entering the tournament with a six game win streak, the Lady Bulldogs had that come to an end in a heartbreaking loss in the first game against South Shelby 9-8.

New Franklin cross-country teams compete at North Callaway

The New Franklin boys’ and girls’ high school and middle school cross-country teams had a good showing while competing in the North Callaway Cross-Country Meet on Saturday. As the only runner for New Franklin High School, freshman Stella Matyas finished 11th with a new personal record in 23:44.
