The New Franklin Lady Bulldogs softball team will play for another day after capturing the championship in the Class 1 District 6 Tournament Friday night in Glasgow by beating Slater 15-5 in five innings. The Lady Bulldogs, 19-7 on the season, will play Jamestown in the sectional round of the state playoffs on Wednesday, Oct.
The Pilot Grove Lady Tigers softball team did exactly what they wanted to do for 4 ½ innings Friday night against Jamestown in the championship game in the Class 1 District 5 Tournament at Leeton. After knocking off top-seeded Leeton 9-7 on Thursday with 13 hits-seven of which went for extra bases-the Lady Tigers wanted to get out to a fast start again on Friday against the Lady Eagles.
The New Franklin boys middle school basketball team captured the consolation trophy in the Prairie Home Junior High Tournament by beating Pilot Grove 40-17. The Bulldogs, 2-1 on the season, jumped out to a 17-8 lead at the half against Pilot Grove and then outscored the Tigers 23-9 in the second half for the win.
