For the first time competing in the Class 1 Cross-Country Championships Saturday at Gans Creek Course in Columbia, New Franklin’s Carly Dorson and Prairie Home’s Dorothy Lock may have surprised even themselves with their place finish.

Hackmans lead New Franklin boys past Glasgow in CAC, 44-25

The New Franklin boys middle school basketball team outscored Glasgow 19-2 in the opening quarter and never looked back, beating the Yellowjackets 44-25 in CAC action Thursday night in New Franklin. The Bulldogs, improving to 7-5 on the season, led Glasgow 25-15 at the half and then outscored the Yellowjackets 19-10 in the second half for the win.

Pilot Grove doubles up Slater in CAC

The Pilot Grove boys and girls middle school basketball teams picked up two wins Thursday night at home by beating the Slater Wildcats in CAC action 44-42 and 41-24, respectively. The Lady Tigers, improving to 6-7 on the season, outscored Slater in all four quarters and led 10-6 after one, 24-15 at the half and 30-17 after three quarters of play.

Kentucky escapes Missouri with 21-17 victory

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Amid a contest in which the defenses for Kentucky and Missouri flexed their muscles most of the afternoon, it was a botched punt snap that proved the difference for the Wildcats in escaping with a 21-17 victory over the Tigers on Saturday.

Drought affects local farmer’s harvests

While not everyone is done with harvest yet this season, early indicators are that the drought had a serious effect on production of both grains and forages. Todd Lorenz, Field Specialist in Agronomy with University of Missouri Extension spoke about how the drought is affecting producers in Cooper County.
