Norman Joseph Claas

Norman Joseph Claas, 69, of Tipton, died Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Tipton Oak Manor. He was born July 25, 1953, in Boonville, son of Arthur P. and Betty P. (Ketterlin) Claas. After their deaths, Norman bought their home so that his family could continue to gather there as they had done for so long. His home was always open to family and friends, and that was especially meaningful to his nieces and nephews. Norman had worked for the state agriculture department, managed Tipton Amoco, and then worked for a number of years at the Cooper County Hospital. Norman was an avid supporter of Tipton sports and was a member of the Booster Club. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou Tigers fan. He enjoyed Frank Knipp’s card night, watching old tv shows, and fishing. He had a quick wit and was a walking encyclopedia. Surviving are two siblings, Tom Claas (Janet) of Overland Park, KS, and Eileen Johansen (Dave) of Syracuse; eight nieces and nephews, John Claas, Peter Claas, Michael Claas, Dustin Johansen, Sara Johansen, Kevin Johansen, Lauren Andrews, and Andrew Claas; as well as numerous great nieces and nephews, and three great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Claas. No visitation or services will be held. A private family burial will be held at a later date at St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Boonville 1974 football team inducted in 2022 Missouri Sports Hall of Fame

After 48 years and the school’s first ever state title, the Boonville Pirates 1974 football team finally got to tell its story Sunday while being inducted into the 2022 Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in Columbia. With 26 coaches and players in attendance for the ceremony, the only undefeated football team that season at 11-0 was able to share its season with other inductees, players, former coaches and family in one of the greatest seasons in Boonville High School history.

LSE girls fall on the road against Osage

The LSE girls eighth grade basketball team fell on the road Tuesday night against School of the Osage 39-33. The Lady Pirates, dropping to 3-2 on the season, trailed Osage 12-2 after first period’s end but rallied back with a 12-8 advantage in the second quarter to cut the lead back to six at 20-14.

The 2022 Missouri Sports Hall of Fame Enshrinement was held on Sunday, Nov. 20 at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia. The Boonville Pirates 1974 football team, who finished the season at 11-0, was one of several teams inducted along with former players, coaches, referee-umpire and trainer. Boonville Lady Pirates drop season opener against Harrisburg, 63-58

“We just couldn’t pull it out at the end to get the win,” said Boonville Lady Pirates basketball coach Jared Runyon on Tuesday night’s 63-58 loss against the Harrisburg Lady Bulldogs. Although the game opened up a new era of basketball with Runyon coaching his first game at Boonville, the first-year coach said it’s a long season and one game doesn’t define their season.

LSE 7th boys remain unbeaten with 44-21 win over Osage

The LSE boys seventh grade basketball team improved to 4-0 on the season by beating School of the Osage Tuesday night in Boonville 44-21. The Pirates opened the first half with a 37-11 lead against Osage and then put it on cruise after that as the Indians rallied back with a 10-7 advantage in the second half.
