New Franklin sophomore pitcher Brynn Belstle joined an elite group this past season after being selected second-team all-state by the Missouri Softball Coaches Association. While joining players from all across the state, Belstle was also just one of two sophomores named second-team all-state by the coaches.
Boonville senior Abby Pulliam said she chose Lincoln University in Jefferson City for two reasons last week while signing a softball letter of intent in the high school commons in front of family and friends. While playing the last four years on the Boonville Lady Pirates softball team, mostly as a pitcher, Pulliam said she wanted to go to Lincoln University because of their education program as well as the coaching staff.
Boonville senior Caidyn Hazel has endured more in a short period of time than any player for the Pirates baseball team when it comes to adversity. After biding his time, the first-two years as a player on the junior varsity team, Hazel finally got his shot to show what he was really made of his junior year as a starter under head coach Greg Hough.

John Dylan Hilgeford, 31, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022. A visitation will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia, followed by a time of remembrance at noon. Norman Joseph Claas, 69, of Tipton, died Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Tipton Oak Manor. He was born July 25, 1953, in Boonville, son of Arthur P. and Betty P. (Ketterlin) Claas. After their deaths, Norman bought their home so that his family could continue to gather there as they had done for so long. His home was always open to family and friends, and that was especially meaningful to his nieces and nephews. Norman had worked for the state agriculture department, managed Tipton Amoco, and then worked for a number of years at the Cooper County Hospital. Norman was an avid supporter of Tipton sports and was a member of the Booster Club. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou Tigers fan. He enjoyed Frank Knipp’s card night, watching old tv shows, and fishing. He had a quick wit and was a walking encyclopedia. Surviving are two siblings, Tom Claas (Janet) of Overland Park, KS, and Eileen Johansen (Dave) of Syracuse; eight nieces and nephews, John Claas, Peter Claas, Michael Claas, Dustin Johansen, Sara Johansen, Kevin Johansen, Lauren Andrews, and Andrew Claas; as well as numerous great nieces and nephews, and three great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Claas. No visitation or services will be held. A private family burial will be held at a later date at St. Andrew’s Cemetery.
