Steven Lynn Moore, 72, of Boonville and formerly of Omaha, NE, passed away at his home on December 12, 2022 Steve was born on June 2, 1950 in Minneapolis, MN a son of the late Eugene Dennis Moore and Betty (Eveland) Moore. He married Judy McQuitty on December 24, 1997 in San Diego, CA. She survives at their home. Steve was a U.S. Army veteran serving honorably during the Vietnam War where he was stationed in Korea. He was an award- winning Honda dealership car salesman in El Cajon, CA and he enjoyed classic muscle cars. His most recent employment included working as an OATS driver in Boonville. His favorite activities included playing his guitar and listening to music from the 1960’s and 70’s, researching family history, genealogy and studying Howard County Missouri history. In addition to his wife, Judy, Steve is survived by a daughter, Meghan Moore; two brothers, Mike Moore (Suzy) and Tom Moore (Sue); two step-daughters, Amber Bradshaw (Bill Harrison) and Ginger Bradshaw; a sister, Barbara Brand; two brothers-in-law, Jim McQuitty (Carolyn) and Chris McQuitty; three grandchildren, Callista, Brandon and Wyatt Moore; two step-grandchildren, Tegan and Caden Harrison; two nieces, Rachael and Melissa and by four nephews, Adam, Alex, Matt and Bryan. He is also survived by his maternal aunt, Carolyn Garrison. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by a nephew, Mark Moore. Services honoring Steve’s life will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 30 at Markland-Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Association. Condolences may be shared at www.marklandyager. com. Boonville’s new 26-foot tall lit Christmas tree was vandalized this past week. On Wednesday December 7 at approximately 7 p.m., city officials were alerted to the vandalization of the new 26-foot tall lit Christmas tree they have installed on the lawn at the KATY Depot.
Although the score board didn’t show it Thursday night in a dual against the Warrensburg Tigers, Boonville wrestling coach Justin Hahn said the boy’s and girl’s wrestling teams are making progress. While the Lady Pirates suffered their first loss of the season against Warrensburg 30-28, the Pirates fell a little harder while recording only three wins on the night in a 49-30 setback.
The Pilot Grove boys’ basketball team fell in the third place game in the Pilot Grove Tiger Classic on Saturday by losing to the Higbee Tigers 68-46. Pilot Grove, dropping to 2-4 on the season, trailed Higbee 26-18 at the half and 50-36 after three quarters of play.
Boonville seniors Colby Caton and Max Eckerle were recently selected to the KMZU Dream Team by area coaches for the 2022 season. Caton and Eckerle, both two way starters for the Pirates, led the Pirates to the quarterfinal round of the state playoffs in Class 3.
The Boonville boys ninth grade basketball team finished seventh in the Mexico Freshmen Tournament on Saturday by beating the Hannibal Pirates 53-18. Boonville, 3-2 on the season, dominated Hannibal from the opening tip and took a 16-4 lead after one and a 21-11 advantage at the half.
The LSE wrestling team had its best finish of the season Saturday in the Carrollton Tournament with five first place finishers and five second place finishes. LSE wrestling coach Christian Stock said a total of 17 teams and around 250 wrestlers were present for the tournament.
