LSE 7th- 8th girls win season finale against Hallsville

The LSE girls seventh and eighth grade basketball teams had the perfect ending Monday night on the road while leading the Hallsville Indians from start to finish. While the seventh grade team defeated Hallsville 30-25, the eighth grade basketball team prevailed by a score of 47-19.

City election positions’ filing deadline approaches

For those interested in filing for city office for the April 2023 Municipal Election, the deadline to file is fast approaching. The City of Boonville has four seats on the City Council that are up for election or re-election, if the current council member decides to run again.

Hannah Cole Primary students read for bikes

On their last day of school before the holiday break, students at Hannah Cole Primary School not only held holiday parties, but they also had a chance to win a bicycle. Hannah Cole participates in the Bikes for Books program hosted by the Cooper Masonic Lodge #36.

Caton, Johns and Ellison head all-state football team in Class 3

If you ask Boonville Pirates football coach Greg Hough on the three all-state selections by the MFCA (Missouri Football Coaches Association), seniors Colby Caton, Jackson Johns and Tyson Ellison all did amazing things this season and over their careers. While all three were captains for the Pirates football team, Hough said they were also all-conference, all-district, academic all-state and all-state players.

Pirates drop conference opener against Eldon, 75-61

Boonville Pirates basketball coach Mark Anderson used the terms “pretty miserable” when describing Tuesday night’s 75-61 loss on the road against the Eldon Mustangs. After winning the night before at home against Oak Grove, Anderson felt the Pirates had a good chance to win their conference opener as well not to mention pick up a third straight victory going into the final game of the 2022 season on December 29 against Macon in the MAAC Holiday Shootout in Moberly.

Pirates pick up trifecta against Oak

Boonville Pirates basketball coach Mark Anderson knew the chances were good that his team would come out victorious against Oak Grove Monday night at the Windsor gymnasium. Although the Pirates were far from perfect in a 59-40 win over Oak Grove, Anderson said he thought the team did what they needed to do to win.

Betty Jo (Rogers) Niebruegge 1925 2022

Betty Jo (Rogers) Niebruegge, 96, of New Franklin, passed away December 19, 2022 at The Bluffs in Columbia. Betty was born on December 30, 1925 in New Franklin a daughter of Stanley “Hawkshaw” Rogers and Anna Laura Will iams Rogers. She graduated from New Franklin High School in 1942. In 1943 she moved to St. Louis and helped in the war effort working in Quickmill Defense Plant and returned to New Franklin in 1945 where she was employed as a telephone operator. She met her future husband, Herbert “Herb” Niebruegge on his first day home from serving in the Navy in 1946 and they were engaged on Christmas Day in 1946. They married on May 21, 1947 in Lone Elm. Betty and Herb enjoyed hosting many family Thanksgiving dinners and Labor Day barbeques while living in Columbia on Bourn Avenue until moving back to New Franklin in 1983. Betty retired 1984 after thirty-five years as a GTE telephone operator. Betty was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Boonville. She was a participant in CBS Bible Study in Columbia for twenty-five years traveling to Columbia weekly for her Bible study group. Betty was always on the go. She was known as the Banana Lady, spending many years ministering to area nursing home residents by delivering bananas to the residents, which they enjoyed, and praying with and reading to the residents. She also kept active delivering meals on wheels for the local senior center. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy J. Hayes and husband, Mike of Harrisburg; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Rogers of Boonville; a grandson, Scott Robinson of Aiken, SC; and by nieces and nephews, Beverly Rogers, Shirley Lenz, Mike (Debbie) Lenz, James (Pam) Lenz, Kathy (Greg) Tebbenkamp, Dennis (Jean) Lenz as well as numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
