Pirates drop TCC game against Hallsville, 61-46

The Boonville Pirates basketball team had every incentive to snap out of its five game losing streak Friday night against the Hallsville Indians at the Windsor gymnasium. Aside from playing at home for the first time in almost a month, the Pirates also had a chance to knock off a red-hot Hallsville team in conference play.

Grace Janet (Estes) Gaddis

1934-2023 Grace Janet Gaddis, 88 of New Franklin, passed away January 6, 2023 at Ashley Manor in Boonville. She was born December 22, 1934 in Phoenix, AZ a daughter of J.C. Estes and Grace Cline Estes. She married Gilbert L. Gaddis on June 4, 1955. Mrs. Gaddis had formerly been employed with the Boonville Daily News. She enjoyed sewing and cooking.

Jimmy Lee Howard

1957-2023 Jimmy Lee Howard, 65, of New Franklin passed away January 11, 2023, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia. Jimmy was born in Columbia on February 23, 1957, the son of Jack Marden Howard and Edith Lucille Douglas Howard. He graduated from New Franklin High School with the class of 1976. He was employed at Nordyne in Boonville for 21 years. Jimmy was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. He enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, collecting guns especially deer rifles and 22’s. On of his favorite activities was enjoying a glass of sweet tea under his big tree. Jimmy was his own person and loved his family. Survivors include a son, Tommy Lee Howard (Erica) of Franklin; a daughter, Melissa Howard (Jason Hensley) of Higbee; a sister, Brenda O’Bryan (Mark) of Wooldridge; four grandchildren, Ethan Howard, Whitlee Applegate, Carson Howard and Cameron Howard; four nieces, Mindy Brandes, Tracy Buikema, Kelly Freeman and Jacque Young and two nephews, Brad and Tyler Inskeep. Also surviving are several great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gail Inskeep and by several aunts, uncles and cousins. Services celebrating Jimmy’s life will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Markland- Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Sulphur Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to Sulphur Springs Cemetery Association. Condolences may be shared at www.marklandyager. com. Gander, Taylor finish 3rd in Chillicothe Tournament

For Boonville wrestlers Gabe Gander and Raven Taylor, the annual Chillicothe Invitational Tournament was more than just a tournament. With 15 teams competing on the boys side of the bracket and 11 for the girls, Boonville head coach Justin Hahn knew it was going to be tough for the wrestlers-especially since the tournament consisted of 16-man brackets.
