FAYETTE, MO –The Howard County Economic Development Council (HCEDC) announced today the conclusion of its long-standing partnership with the Moberly Area Economic Development Corporation (MAEDC) and the establishment of a new relationship with the Boonslick Community Development Corporation (BCDC) to provide professional economic development services in Howard County.
Last Saturday morning, May 3, civic, church and local friends and organizations gathered at the Veterans Memorial Park, next to the Boonville Bridge, to enjoy coffee, donuts and gather their orange trash bags to head to their “cleanup” location. Groups included the Boonville Women’s Club, the Hannah Cole Chapter of the DAR, and civic organizations such as Rotary, Kiwanis and Lion’s Club. Churches also participated--the EUCC, New Life Ministries and Community of Christ, to name just a few, who weeded, mulched and tidied around their properties. The Friends of the Library, State Fair Community College, Unlimited Opportunities, the Friends of Historic Boonville, The Boonville Chamber of Commerce, and Sisters Supportive Living (who had the best attendance!) also spent time beautifying our town. Local businesses and homeowners joined, as well. The Master Gardeners shared a wonderful display and donated packets of seeds. A lucky winner drew a prize given by the Gardeners. Guests who stopped by included State Representative Tim Taylor, Bert McClary (who for 15 years has helped keep Harley Park and Lookout Point looking top-notch), and Joan Read who formerly led the Boonville Pick-Up effort. A thank you goes to Pilot for donating water, and the Rails and Trails Museum for maps. Special thanks to the City of Boonville for providing picnic tables, orange trash bag pickup, and support. Suggestions and ideas also came from Shelly Mayer, “For Columbia,” celebrating its 10th Anniversary. Two raffle baskets were donated by the organizers-Karen Hsu and Lisa Street who are already planning next year’s event-hoping to include even more local groups. The date for next year’s “Hello Beautiful” is tentatively set for April 18, 2026.
Don’t forget to put a few coins in your pocket or purse when you’re headed to Saturday’s “May on Main” event in Downtown Boonville. The Friends of the Library are launching a fundraising effort to help raise funds for furnishings for the Library’s new home on the historic Kemper Campus.
