Pirate wrestlers win on Senior Night against Southern Boone, 45-27

Boonville Pirates wrestling coach Justin Hahn knew that to win the match Monday night on Senior Night against Southern Boone that Boonville had to dominate in the upper weight classes.With the Pirates all first- or second-year wrestlers in the lower weight classes, Hahn said he knew his team would take its lumps but would have a chance for a little “payback” in the heavier weight classes.As it turned out, Hahn was right as Boonville recorded wins in five out of the seven weight classes from the 132-pound weight class on for a 45-27 victory.The win improved Boonville’s record to 5-4 on the season.As for the Boonville Lady Pirates wrestling team, they fell to a good Southern Boone team 47-6.The loss dropped the Boonville girls’ wrestling team to 6-3 on the season.“Southern Boone had good wrestlers in the lower weights and wound-up beating all of our first- or second-year wrestlers,” Hahn said.

Surgeon General announces link between smoking and cancer

On January 11, 1964, US Surgeon General Luther Terry announced a link between smoking and cancer.Following the passage of the Cigarette Labeling and Advertising Act of 1965 (aka the Cigarette Act), all cigarette packets were required to include, “CAUTION: Cigarette Smoking may be hazardous to your health.” This was effective from January 1, 1966, until October 31, 1970.
