The Boonville Pirates basketball team struggled to score Wednesday night in a Jamboree at Sturgeon High School.
While finishing 1-2 on the night, the Pirates beat the host team in the third and final game by a score of 32-12. However, in the two previous games, Boonville fell to Southern Boone 26-11 and Father Tolton 24-5.
Boonville Pirates basketball coach Scott Floyd said his team hit only one three-pointer in all three contests.
“We had difficulty scoring all night,” Floyd said. “However, we came out hot in the third and final game to beat Sturgeon. This was an excellent opportunity to go against different opponents and work on different aspects of the game we have emphasized in practice. I thought as a whole we were decent in our defense. However, we struggled scoring the ball, which was a surprise. We definitely have a lot to work on before our first game against Mexico on December 1st. But it was nice to get some game competition and get some guys some varsity action. We have eight more practices to improve our overall game and I have confidence that our players will work hard in practice to make sure we are ready to play when the games count.”
Riley Lang led the scoring on the night for Boonville in three games with 18 points. Tavious Brazil chipped in 10 while Jady Reese added five, Giovanni Strickland four, Ryan Beaver, Bryce Fuemmeler and Avery Reardon each with three and Ryan Sprigg with two.
