The New Franklin boys junior high cross-country team captured first in the Salisbury Middle School Invitational by edging out Southern Boone of Ashland by a mere two points.
With 19 boys and 21 girls competing in the race, New Franklin cross-country coach Erika Soder said Jackson Dorson finished first overall in a time of 10:19 while Tyler Perkins took second only two seconds back in a time of 10:21 and Sam Ridgeway in fifth place in a time of 11:01. Meanwhile, in the girls race, Mallori Burnett ran a time of 12:16 to finish with a four place medal. Soder said Madelyn Chaney made some great improvements to finish 12th.
“Jackson and Tyler ran a great race,” Soder said. “They had to stay competitive throughout the entire course to hold off the third place finisher from St. Joseph Catholic. Seventh graders Alex Grover, Tysen Dowell, Garrett Hampton and Ethan Wells also showed improvement and are learning how to push themselves more and more while also running a smart race.
