The New Franklin Bulldogs baseball team had one of those nights on Thursday against the Sturgeon Bulldogs.
Aside from committing seven errors in the ballgame, New Franklin also struck out 13 times while stranding 11 runners in a 7-2 loss against Sturgeon.
“If we can catch the ball, make contact and drive guys in, we will be much better,” said New Franklin baseball coach Erich Gerding.
Of course it didn’t help that Sturgeon struck for five runs in the top-half of second and one again in the fifth to go up 6-0.  However after getting one of the runs back in the bottom-half of the fifth, New Franklin turned right around and surrendered another run in the sixth to trail 7-1. Meanwhile, after holding Sturgeon scoreless in its half of the seventh, New Franklin came back and tacked on another run in the bottom-half of the inning. However by then it was too little too late as Sturgeon held on to win by five runs.
Brandon Hatfield picked up the win in the circle for Sturgeon while Jerrod Riley took the loss for New Franklin. Hatfield pitched the first-six innings and struck out 10 batters while giving up one run on three hits and five walks. Riley, meanwhile, pitched the first-five innings and allowed six runs on three hits and two walks while striking out seven. Kaleb Anderton then came in and pitched two innings in relief and issued one run on two hits and one walk while striking out three. Then, to finish the game, Dalton Johnson pitched two innings and struck out six batters.
Sturgeon also out-hit New Franklin 5-4.
For New Franklin, Dalton Johnson had three of the team’s four hits with a single, two doubles and two RBIs while Mason Bailey added one single.
