Six residents were displaced after a fire damaged a home at 1200 Jefferson Road, yesterday.
Responders were on the scene by 3:45 p.m. Jefferson Road was quickly blocked off at the intersection of 11th Street so emergency responders could fight the fire.
"Upon arrival there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the garage, where the fire seemed to be contained," Boonville Fire Chief Tim Carmichael said.
While it took a while to battle the blaze, the BFD extinguished the fire, which allowed a deeper inspection on the probable cause.
The garage was a total loss. An investigation determined the fires source was electrical in nature. Carmichael said he believes the fire began in the vicinity of the refrigerator.
The Red Cross arranged a place for the family to stay overnight. It is still working with the family on possible needs they may have.
