Alliant Bank and UMB Bank, two teams who will more than likely fight it out in Senior Babe Ruth this season, squared off for the first time Saturday night at Twillman field in Harley park.
After Alliant Bank dismantled Pilot Grove 9-1 in the first game, UMB Bank came back and beat Alliant Bank in the nightcap in a close game by a score of 7-4.
Of course Sunday night’s game weren’t so kind to the two teams, with Alliant Bank falling to Sacred Heart 8-3 and UMB Bank dropping a 9-0 decision.
Senior Babe Ruth will continue on Tuesday, June 9th, with Sedalia playing Pilot Grove starting at 6 p.m. and Alliant Bank battling Sedalia at 8.
In the games last night, Sedalia Sacred Heart exploded for six runs in the bottom-half of the second to lead Alliant Bank 6-0. Meanwhile, after a scoreless third and fourth innings, Alliant Bank rallied back with five runs in the top-half of the fifth to cut the lead in half at 6-3. However, in the bottom-half of the sixth, Sedalia Sacred Heart plated two more runs to win by five.
Jayce Simoncic picked up the win on the mound for Sedalia Sacred Heart while Jon Gerke took the loss for Alliant Bank. Simoncic pitched the first-four innings and gave up one hit while striking out three batters. Gerke, meanwhile, pitched the first-six innings and struck out four batters while giving up eight runs, two earned, on six hits and one walk.
Sedalia Sacred Heart also out-hit Alliant Bank 6-4, with Koln Brace going 2-for-3 with two singles.
For Alliant Bank, Brady Gholson went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while Jon Gerke, Davis Valencia and Lane Ball each had one single.
In the nightcap, Sedalia Sacred Heart broke a scoreless tie after one by pushing across two runs in the second and one in each of the fourth and sixth innings of play to lead UMB Bank 4-0. Meanwhile, in the top-half of the seventh, Sedalia Sacred Heart broke the game wide open by exploding for five runs for the victory.
Grant Huhmann picked up the win on the mound for Sacred Heart while Conner Pond took the loss for UMB Bank. Huhmann pitched all seven innings and struck out seven batters while giving up six hits and one walk. Pond, meanwhile, pitched the first-four innings and gave up three runs on three hits and five walks while striking out five. Alex Holem then came in and pitched two innings in relief and allowed five runs on six hits and one walk. Then, to finish the game, Dalton Bealmer pitched one inning in relief and surrendered one run on one hit and two walks while striking out one.
Sedalia Sacred Heart also had 10 hits in the game, with Jayce Simoncic going 2-for-4 with a single, double and three RBIs. Dylan Cooper also had two hits and one RBI while Ben Smeltzer added two singles.
For UMB Bank, Dalton Bealmer went 3-for-3 with three singles while Keaton Barnes added two singles and Austin Hulbert with one single.

Alliant Bank 9
Pilot Grove 1
Pilot Grove scored its only run of the ballgame in the top-half of the first but it wasn’t enough against Alliant Bank in Boonville Senior Babe Ruth Saturday night at Twillman field in Harley park.
Alliant Bank trailed Pilot Grove 1-0 after 1/2 inning before rallying back with nine unanswered runs for the victory. Of course it all started for Alliant Bank with three runs in the bottom-half of the first. Alliant Bank then sent one run across in the second, two again in the third and three in the sixth to round out the scoring.
Lane Ball picked up the complete-game victory for Alliant Bank while Ben Glenn took the loss for Pilot Grove. In seven innings, Ball struck out six batters and gave up one run on four hits and one walk. Glenn, meanwhile, pitched the first-five innings and gave up six runs, three earned, on five hits and three walks while striking out four. Jacob Twenter then came in and pitched one inning in relief and allowed three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out one.
Alliant Bank also had nine hits in the ballgame, with Austin Andrews going 4-for-4 with three singles, one double and two RBIs.
Ryan Brown was 2-for-3 with a single, double and two RBIs while Brock Richards added a single and one RBI, Lane Ball and Brady Gholson each with one single, Davis Valencia with two RBIs and Austin Doyle with one single.
For Pilot Grove, Jacob Twenter went 2-for-2 with two doubles while Isaac Lorenz added a single and one RBI and Jon Gerke with one single.
UMB Bank 7
Alliant Bank 4
UMB Bank broke a 1-1 tie after two by outscoring Alliant Bank 6-3 for the rest of the game Saturday night in Senior Babe  Ruth action at Twillman field in Harley park.
UMB Bank opened the game with one run in the bottom-half of the first only to have Alliant Bank rally back with one in the top-half of the second to tie the game at 1-all. Meanwhile, after Alliant Bank failed to score in its half of the third, UMB Bank came back and plated three more runs in the bottom-half of the inning to extend the lead to 5-1. However, after a scoreless fourth, Alliant Bank sent three runs across to cut the lead to one at 5-4 only to have UMB Bank add one in the bottom-half of the inning and one again in the sixth for the victory.
Jake Esser was the winning pitcher in the game for UMB Bank while Austin Andrews took the loss for Alliant Bank. Esser pitched the first-five innings and struck out five batters while giving up four runs on four hits and three walks. Clay Jeffery then came in and pitched two innings in relief and allowed one hit and one walk while striking out one.
For Alliant Bank, managed Greg Jackson used a total of four pitchers. Ryan Brown started the game and pitched the first-two innings before giving way to Austin Andrews, who threw two innings in relief. Jady Reese and Riley Lang then came in and pitched one inning in relief each.
Dalton Bealmer had two of the team’s four hits for UMB Bank with a double, home run and five RBIs. Wyatt Grizzle and Evan Franklin each had one single while Makiah Waibel and Lance Quinlan drove in one run each.
For Alliant Bank, Davis Valencia went 2-for-3 with two singles while Lane Ball, Dalton Johnson and Riley Lang added one single each and Austin Andrews, Jady Reese and Jon Gerke each with one RBI.
