The Bunceton Lady Dragons softball team dropped a one-run decision against Northwest of Hughesville Monday night in the Class 1 District 15 tournament in La Monte by a score of 12-11.
The Lady Dragons trailed at one point in the game by a score of 9-2 after three before rallying with three runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to go up 10-9. However, after Northwest plated two more runs in the bottom-half of the inning to regain the lead at 11-10, Bunceton rallied back again with one run in the top-half of the seventh to tie the game at 11-all. Unfortunately for Bunceton, the Lady Dragons had the last at bat and scored what turned out to be the winning run for a 12-11 victory.
Kierra Younce picked up the win in the circle for Northwest while Lexus Chapman took the loss for Bunceton. Younce pitched all seven innings and gave up 11 runs on 10 hits and five walks while striking out five. Chapman, meanwhile, pitched all seven innings and allowed 12 runs on eight hits and 11 walks while striking out seven.
Younce also led the hitting attack in the game for Northwest with three singles and four RBIs.
For Bunceton, Deanne Emde went 2-for-4 with a single, home run and three RBIs. Emily Clevenger was 2-for-4 with a single and a triple while Kylee Flatt added a single, double and one RBI, Lexus Chapman with two singles, Julia Kahle with one triple and Rachel Lenz with one double and two RBIs.
In the game last Friday at Otterville, the Lady Dragons won by a score of 13-1 in five innings.
Bunceton never trailed in the game against Otterville and led 3-0 after one, 4-0 after two, 6-1 after three and 8-1 after four before exploding for five more runs in the fifth.
Lexus Chapman picked up the win in the circle for Bunceton and struck out 10 batters while giving up one run on three hits and two walks in five innings.
Bunceton also out-hit Otterville 10-3, with Deanne Emde going 2-for-2 with a single, triple and four RBIs.
Skyler Shuffield had a single, triple and one RBI while Becky Fredrich added two singles and two RBIs, Julia Kahle also with two singles, Kylee Flatt with one single and one RBI and Jenna Kahle with one single.
Natalie Schoen had two hits in the game for Otterville.
