Shelby Breshears and Trevor Sanders garnered second-place finishes while competing in the Harrisburg Middle School Invitational last week in Harrisburg.
Breshears and Sanders both finished second in the high jump with a jumps of 4’-6” and 5’-2”, respectively.
Breshears also took fourth in the 100-meter dash in 14.57 seconds and ran a leg on the 4 x 400-meter relay team along with Gretchen Simpson, Kirsten Limbach and Lauren Evans, which finished fifth in a time of 5:19.92.
In the final-team standings for the girls, Southern Boone captured first in the meet with a total of 155 points. Marceline finished second with 122, followed by Harrisburg with 55.3, Paris 53, Salisbury 45.3, St. Mary’s of Glasgow 40, Ollis 34, Westran 27.3, New Franklin 23, Slater 11 and Sturgeon 4.
For the boys, Southern Boone racked up 176 points. Ollis and Marceline tied for second with 81 points, followed by Westran with 56, Paris 42, Harrisburg 41, Salisbury 37, St. Mary’s of Glasgow with 32, Slater 15, Sturgeon 13 and New Franklin 11.
New Franklin track coach Adam Quest said being their second meet of the year, the athletes are finally starting to get a feel for their events and how a track meet runs.
“Overall, we only brought home three medals, but we definitely saw improvement with most of our performances, which as a coach is really all you can ask for,” Quest said.
