Paige Peterson finishes the match with a hat trick with three goals on the night
The Boonville Lady Pirates soccer team showed just how dominating they could be against the Fulton Hornets last night at the BHS Sports Complex.
While leading 2-0 at the half against Fulton, the Lady Pirates came out in the second half and turned it up a notch offensively while scoring seven unanswered goals for a 9-0 victory.
With 57 shot attempts and 34 shots on goal compared to just one and one for the Lady Hornets, Boonville also recorded its sixth shutout of the season while improving to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the NCMC.
Boonville Lady Pirates soccer coach Tim Brown said once again, the girls were sluggish coming out of the gate but they finished the race like a thoroughbred.
“As soon as we figure out how to play with maximum intensity from the first whistle, rather than having to build up steam as the match progresses, we are going to be dangerous,” Brown said.
Of course Brown was probably less than happy with the first half as the Lady Pirates once again struggled out of the gate with just two goals, the first coming at the 21-minute mark on an assist from Paige Peterson to Cali Jo McAreavy. Thirteen minutes later at the 34-minute mark, Boonville extended its lead to 2-0 on the assist from Ella Reisinger to Kayla Cotten.
As for the second half, the Lady Pirates completely dominated Fulton while controlling the ball pretty much the entire 40 minutes. Although the Lady Hornets never attempted a shot on goal in the second half, Boonville had plenty attempts-the first of the half coming at the 49 minute mark on an assist from McAreavy to Hannah Fuemmeler.
The Lady Pirates never looked back from that point on in the match while adding their fourth goal of the night on an unassisted goal by Paige Peterson at the 56-minute mark to make it 4-0.
Peterson wound up with the hat trick on the evening with three goals but also had four assists for the Lady Pirates, the second coming at the 61-minute mark to Fuemmeler to go ahead 5-0. Then, at the 64-minute mark, Fuemmeler assisted Paige Renfrow on the first of her two goals to push the lead to 6-0.
Boonville would add three more goals on the night, with the seventh of the match coming at the 67-minute mark on an assist from Peterson to Renfrow. Meanwhile, at the 69-minute mark, Kate Peterson assisted Paige Peterson on a sister to sister assist to goal to extend the lead to 8-0. Then, at the 80-minute mark, Shelby Wessing assisted Paige Peterson on a goal to closeout the scoring.
Boonville goalie Haylee Thomas had one save on the night.
As for fouls in the match, the Lady Pirates had four compared to just three for Fulton.
The Boonville Lady Pirates soccer team will host the Hannibal Pirates in a NCMC match on Thursday at the BHS Sports Complex starting at 5 p.m.
