Beware! It’s Potty Time!

Don’t be surprised if a painted toilet shows up in your yard randomly soon. Jody Lewis, marketing teacher at the Boonslick Technical Education Center and DECA advisor, has worked with her DECA and marketing students to come up with a cool new project to both learn about marketing and raise money for DECA, a business and marketing organization. Students planned the project and painted the toilets individually. The toilets are painted in a variety of colors and themes, from ones supporting breast cancer to a golden toilet. The fundraiser is meant to be a fun, yet unusual, project for the students.
Prices to remove the toilet include $10 to take it away (even though you don’t have to pay anything to have the toilet removed,) and $15 to pass it on to your worst enemy. $30 will buy you “Potty Insurance”, which will ensure a toilet doesn’t show up in your yard. $20 gets a toilet delivered to your yard or perhaps your worst enemy’s yard! The money will help fund DECA, including competitions and jumpstart the new organization at the BTEC.
Toilets will start showing up in people’s yard after school on Friday.  DECA’s “Potty Patrol” will also be hard at work on November 1 and 2 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Jody Lewis stated, “DECA is an international association of high school students studying marketing, finance, hospitality and management. The state affiliate of the DECA Inc. organization is the Career and Technical Student Organization for Missouri. Missouri DECA ranks eighth in the nation in membership with more than 8,500 members. There are 12 DECA districts and 178 DECA chapters in Missouri.” Ms. Lewis herself is a new teacher this year, and is originally from Keytesville. She attended college in Dayton, Ohio, and has moved around the country where she has worked for many for-profit and non-profit businesses. She will be teaching the new entrepreneurship class during the second semester. She also opened a school store at the BTEC that will be run by the entrepreneurship class and marketed by the marketing class.
