The Boonville Lady Pirates soccer team had two milestones Monday night in a 3-0 win over the Marshall Owls in NCMC action at the BHS Sports Complex.
First, the Lady Pirates recorded their eighth straight win to improve to 10-1 overall and 6-1 in the NCMC. Secondly, they picked up their seventh shutout of the season.
“We wanted to get ahead early and make Marshall chase us, so we got the early goal and never looked back,” said Boonville girls soccer coach Tim Brown. “In fact, the first half of the match, against the sun and some hellacious wind, was probably the best soccer we’ve played all year: we were precise with our passing, there was a lot of off-the-ball movement, we were winning the ball back quickly, we were finishing-it looked pretty good.”
The Lady Pirates definitely put a stamp on the first half with three goals to lead Marshall 3-0.
Although both teams played to a standstill in the second half, Boonville pretty much owned Marshall for the first 40 minutes with freshman Hannah Fuemmeler scoring two minutes into the match on an assist from Brittany Perry to make it 1-0.
The Lady Pirates didn’t stop at one goal, though. Six minutes later at the 8-minute mark, Perry picked up her second assists on the night on a goal by Sophia Taube to extend the lead to 2-0. Then, for the final goal of the half and the match for that matter, Paige Peterson directed a corner kick right to Perry, who somehow slid it past the goalie to make it 3-0.
Boonville also finished the match with 31 shot attempts and 19 shots on goal while Marshall had three shot attempts and one shot on goal.
Senior goalie Cassidy Renfrow also had one save in the match.
As for fouls in the match, Marshall had seven compared to just three for Boonville.
In the JV match, Boonville defeated Marshall by the same identical score of 3-0.
The Lady Pirates, 8-1-1 on the season, battled Marshall to a 0-0 tie in the first half but then broke the tie at the 38-minute mark on an assist from Bailey Magyar to Alyssa Dell. Then, after an unassisted goal by Shelby Wessing at the 46-minute mark to make it 2-0, Boonville came back with its third goal at the 66-minute mark on an assist from Jordan Xufuris to Addy Quinlan.
Brown said the JV Lady Pirates had some difficulty attacking against the wind during the first half, but they picked it up in the second with the gusts at their back.
Boonville’s JV finished the match with 37 shot attempts and 20 shots on goal while Marshall had five shot attempts and zero shots on goal.
The Lady Pirates also had six fouls in the match compared to just two for Marshall.
