The lawn at the Katy Depot is seeing a complete overhaul with the installation of a new irrigation system. The system will cost $4,250 and will provide much needed water for a lawn which gets first attention from new comers and travelers to the area.
Parks Director Gary Nauman said that Rost Landscaping out of Columbia-Midway area will be installing the system. Nauman stated that what grass was left was taken out of the lawn and 14 loads of top soil was added on top of the lawn. Once the irrigation system is installed, the city will sow grass seed. Nauman said that the drought killed most of the grass this year and a change was needed to better manage the property's appearance.
Nauman said that since the depot is the first impression when people see Boonville, Boonville Administrator Irl Tessendorf gave the green light to improve the property. There are also plans to make the back portion of the property behind the depot a garden of native plants. Nauman plans on completing that project next year.
