The Hannibal girls soccer team rallied from a 2-1 deficit by scoring the final-two goals in the match to beat the Boonville Lady Pirates last night in Hannibal 3-2.

Hannibal scored first in the match at the 12 minute mark to lead at the half by a score of 1-0.

Meanwhile, in the second half, Boonville rallied back with two goals to go up 2-1. The Lady Pirates first score of the match came at the 52-minute mark on an assist from Amanda Richerson to Mackenzie Greis. Then, at the 60-minute mark, McKenna McAreavy assisted Bailey Pfeiffer.

Unfortunately for Boonville, they never scored again for the rest of the match as Hannibal scored twice at the 64 and 67 minute mark for the victory.

Boonville soccer coach Tim Brown said the girls play okay but did not work hard enough to win. “We probably had the better of the goal-scoring chances overall, but we made some massive defensive and attacking mistakes, and Hannibal just seemed to want it more than we did,” Brown said.

Boonville, who dropped to 6-5 overall and 5-3 in the NCMC, finished the match with 17 shot attempts and nine shots on goal compared to 15 for Hannibal on shot attempts and eight shots on goal.

Boonville goalie also had five saves in the match.

In the JV match, Boonville and Hannibal played to a 0-0 tie.

The Lady Pirates finished the match with only two shot attempts while Hannibal had 10 shot attempts and eight shots on goal.

Senior goalie Kristen Stevens had eight saves in the match for Boonville’s JV, who dropped to 5-4-2.
Brown said in an abbreviated match the JV squad managed to stave off Hannibal that beat them 4-0 just under a month ago.
