The Boonville Crush fifth grade basketball team competed in the Linn Tournament over the weekend and finished with a record of 1-2 overall.


The Boonville Crush fifth grade basketball team competed in the Linn Tournament over the weekend and finished with a record of 1-2 overall.

The Boonville Crush defeated Owensville 27-6 in the first game but then lost to the Central Missouri Swoosh 53-3 and Southern Boone Eagles 29-10. Boonville coach Dawn Stumph said with this being their first tournament as a team you never know how the girls will play.

“Our first game we played our best,”?Stumph said. “We were very aggressive individually and as a team and worked well together as a team. After playing in the Linn Tournament we have seen our strengths and weaknesses on the floor.” Coach Mary Vollmer said the last-two games the girls just couldn’t get it together. “We had too many mental mistakes but we are learning and the girls had fun,”?Vollmer said.

In the first game against Owensville, Kyla Johnson  had 11 points, Leigha Vollmer eight, Breanna Smith four and Mariah Smith and McKenna Stumph each with two. In the game against Central Missouri Swoosh, Kyla Johnson had all three points for Boonville. Meanwhile, in the final game against Southern Boone, Kyla Johnson tossed in six points while Mariah Smith and McKenna Stumph added two points each.
