After four attempts to pick up a win for the 2011 season, the Boonville Lady Pirates basketball team finally got it done last night on the road against the Versailles Tigers.


Although the Lady Pirates are still six games under the .500 mark for the season at 4-10 overall, the 63-51 win over Versailles couldn’t have come any sooner.

Of course who could blame the Lady Pirates for having a letdown in the second half after leading Versailles 18-5 after one and 33-22 at the half. Although Versailles would outscore Boonville in the second and third quarter 17-15 and 18-11, they still trailed going into the final period at 44-40. Of course with the game still in doubt, the Lady Pirates came back and all but sealed the victory by outscoring Versailles 19-11 in the final period to win by 12.

Junior Mackenzie Greis led the scoring attack in the game for Boonville with 25 points along with three rebounds, three steals, one assist and one blocked shot. Freshman Aly Wessing finished the game with a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds along with three blocked shots, two assists and two steals. Bailey Pfeiffer chipped in eight points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists while Kristin Hoff added six points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal, Sydney Monteer with five points, two steals and one rebound, Hailey Jones with seven points, one rebound and one steal, Madison Watson with two points, seven assists, six rebounds and six steals and Cassidy Renfrow with one rebound.

For Versailles, Jessica Webb tossed in 14 points while Chelsea Merriot added 12 points and 10 rebounds and Danielle Croy with 10 points.

In the JV game, the Boonville Lady Pirates fell to Versailles in a close game 32-26.

The Lady Pirates, 1-6 on the season, led Versailles 5-2 after first period’s end but was outscored 7-4 in the second quarter to go in at the half tied at 9-all.  Versailles never trailed after that while holding a 16-11 advantage in the third period and a 7-6 edge in the final period for the victory.

Freshman Bridget Fischer had the game-high for Boonville with 13 points. Anna Davis chipped in seven while Carley Esser and Emma Taylor added two points each and Sawyer Quinlan and Cassidy Renfrow with one point each.
