Even though the Boonville Pirates wrestling team had only four members participate in the Steve Leslie Invitational Friday and Saturday at Pleasant Hill High School, it didn't stop them from bringing home two medals.

Boonville Pirates wrestling coach Kyle Newham said only four wrestlers competed due to a number of issues."For being shorthanded we did well with two of the four wrestlers finishing higher than they had ever at a varsity tournament and to put two wrestlers in the finals I was pleased," stated Newham."The kids that wrestled this weekend fought very hard against good competition of larger schools."

The two wrestlers who made their way to the medal stand for the Pirates were senior Trevor Ditto in the 135-pound weight class and sophomore Kyle Cook at 215. While Ditto finished second with a record of 6-2, Cook was perfect during the weekend at 7-0. As for junior Josiah Searfoss and freshman Andrew Broyhill, they were 5-4 and 3-5, respectively, while wrestling at 125 and 145.

In the final-team standings, Osawatomie, Kansas captured the team title with 614.5 points. Prairie View finished second at 599.5, followed by Adrian at 519.5, Shawnee Mission Northwest at 498, Smithville at 495, Carl Junction at 431.5, Marshfield at 426.5, Lee's Summit West at 406, Clinton at 397.5, Pleasant Hill at 379.5, Nevada at 368.0, Grandview at 357.5, Liberty North at 315.5, Shawnee Mission NW JV at 315.5, Ruskin at 279, Boonville at 192.5, Prairie View JV at 91, Nevada JV at 74, Grandview JV at 64, Osawatomie JV at 55, Pleasant Hill JV at 53 and Marshfield JV at 11.
