After winning 54-47 over the Marshall Lady Owls Friday night in the third-place game of the Marshall Shootout, Boonville Lady Pirates basketball coach Joe Henke said you have to be excited about winning a game no matter how ugly the game may have been.

The good news is that Boonville is now 2-1 on the season. The bad news is that after leading by as much as 10 on two different occasions, the Lady Pirates allowed Marshall to rally back to tie the game at 43-all with 5:01 left in the game.

Nonetheless, Henke said he is proud of the girls for finding ways to win games. “I am not pleased with the movement on offense and I am disappointed with our effort on the defensive end of the court,” Henke said. “We will take the win, but we have a lot of things to work over the course of the next couple of weeks. We are a young team and we are still searching for some chemistry on the court. We are still mixing and matching players trying to find the right combination of scorers, rebounders and defenders. We will get there, but we will need to put in the hard work to get where we need to be. We open up conference play on the road versus Fulton on Monday. It will be an early road test in the NCMC. After that, we play our first home game on Friday against Eldon.”

Greis had the game-high for Boonville with 22 points along with four assists, three rebounds and three steals. Bailey Pfeiffer finished the game with 12 points, six rebounds and two assists, while Aly Wessing added 11 points, seven rebounds, two steals and one assist, Sydney Monteer with five points, six steals, four rebounds and one assist, Madison Watson with two points, seven rebounds, two steals and one assist, Sheridan Potter with two points and four rebounds, Kayce Scott with five rebounds and two assists and Hailey Jones with one rebound and one assist.
