Around Halloween time, Debbie Absheer’s favorite cookie design is a witch. Problem is, each one takes her more than a half hour to make.

Absheer, a Howard County resident, has to use a delicate touch and a tiny tip for the warts on the nose, the buckles on the shoe, and the broom.

“It’s just all the little details I?add take time,” Absheer, said.

Growing up, Absheer said she would watch her mother make the ornate cookies but didn’t start to create any herself until she had kids. She said she’s improved dramatically since she started and has become adept at avoiding globs of icing on the cookies.

“They’re not lumpy,  they’re smooth, just clean looking,” Absheer said.

She creates the treats for the fall and winter holidays,  starting in September for Halloween. The rest of the year she makes cakes and candy.
