Boonville and Central Missouri were not on the path of totality for the April 8, 2024 solar eclipse, but that didn’t stop people from stepping outside to enjoy the sight. Many local businesses shut their doors between 12 noon and 2:15 p.m. to allow their employees time to take in the sight. In this area, the moon eclipsed approximately 95% of the sun’s visibility. To safely view the eclipse, viewers needed to use ISO-certified-safe solar eclipse glasses and viewers. Many pulled out their glasses from the eclipse in 2017. For those who didn’t have theirs readily available, the Boonville Visitors Center had a few left over. The next eclipse visible in the contiguous United States won’t be until August 2044. Northwest Alaska will see one in March of 2033. Photo by Laura Wax
