The Boonville Lady Pirates volleyball team had a great start to the season last night by beating the Higginsville Huskers in two straight games 25-20 and 25-21.
While the Lady Pirates actually trailed in the first game against Higginsville, head coach Susie Stone said the first game was everything you would expect in the first match with some jitters and momentum swings.
“We started out in serve receive and was able to kill the first serve of the night,” Stone said. “I feel like that helped set the tone for us passing-wise. The game was tied at 5-5 and then Higginsville went on a large point spread of eight points. They had a strong hitter in the middle who was left handed nd for a while she had our number. We finally were able to get the block situated and get out of that rotation but we were down 13-5. Sheridan Potter then went back to the service line and served two back-to-back aces to give us some momentum before losing serve on a blocking error.”
Sophomore Bailey Pfeiffer finished the match with 13 service points along with two aces, 12 assists, 10 digs, seven kills on 14 of 14 hitting, four solo blocks and two assisted blocks.
Taylor Banks had eight service points with two aces along with seven kills on 19 of 20 hitting, five assists, five digs and two solo blocks. Haley Slaughter finished the match with six service points with three aces along with nine digs, seven kills on 19 of 21 hitting, four solo blocks and two assisted blocks.
Others who contributed for the Lady Pirates were Sheridan Potter with seven service points with two aces and four digs, Jessica Drew with six digs and 2 of 2 serving, Allie Dowling with 15 service points with one ace along with eight digs and one kill, Kristin Hoff with 2 of 2 serving and six digs, Samantha Ivy 3 of 4 hitting with one kill, three assisted blocks and one solo block and Amanda Richerson 4 of 5 hitting with one kill and three assisted blocks.
The JV team was also victorious against Higginsville in two straight games 25-14 and 25-17.
