The Prairie Home Panthers baseball team could have packed up its bags after falling behind Smithton 10-2 after three complete innings Tuesday night at Prairie Home.
Instead the Panthers rallied back with six runs in the top-half of the fifth to cut the lead to two at 10-8. Then, after Smithton plated two more runs in the bottom-half of the fifth, Prairie Home tacked on four more runs to tie the game at 12-all.
Unfortunately for the Panthers, they never got any closer in the ballgame as Smithton added two runs in the bottom-half of the sixth and two again in the seventh for a 16-12 victory.
Prairie Home coach Kyle Mason said the boys played a really good “never die” game. “They played hard and came back after a sluggish start,” Mason said. “Credit Smithton, they were a good ball team and are well coached.”

Smithton’s softball team scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back, beating the Prairie Home Lady Panthers Tuesday night at Prairie Home by a score of 22-0.
The Lady Tigers led 6-0 after one and 16-0 after two before sending six more runs across in the third to win by the 15-run rule.
Prairie Home coach Kristin Milligan said Smithton has a great ball team and one of the best pitchers they have seen all season. “The girls gave 110 percent,” Milligan said. “That is all I can ask for, although, I wish we could have come out with a better, closer game.”
