Prairie Home girls basketball coach Scott Tooley knew his team may have let one get away last night at home against the Otterville Lady Eagles.
While nursing a seven-point lead going into the fourth quarter against the Lady Eagles, Tooley wasn’t counting on his team shooting 1 of 14 from the field. But that’s exactly what happened as Otterville rallied with seven straight points during a minute and 10 stretch and then closed out the game with a three straight points for a 39-36 victory.
Of course Prairie Home coach Jesse Rogge would love nothing more than to have a win. In the second game last night, the Panthers put up another good fight in the first quarter only to drop the next-three quarters while suffering a 66-37 defeat.
While the loss dropped the Lady Panthers to 4-13 overall and 2-5 in the CCAA conference, Tooley said he thought the girls played decent against Otterville.
Of course the third quarter started pretty much like the first as Otterville dominated the early part of the period to tie the game at 24-all only to have the Lady Panthers rally back with a 9-2 scoring edge over the final two minutes and 32 seconds to extend the lead to seven at 33-26.
Although the Lady Panthers appeared to be in good shape heading into the final period of play, they weren’t counting on a 0 for 11 skid. Otterville, meanwhile, went on a 8-3 run during that stretch to go up by two at 36-34 with 2:10 left. Then, after a basket by sophomore Taylor Zey to tie the game at 36-all with 34 seconds left, Otterville came back with three straight points for the victory.
Amy Oleynik led the scoring attack in the game for Otterville, who improved to 12-7 overall, with 13 points. Missy Swope chipped in 11, Tori Schoen eight, Hannah Stone three and Paige Fry and Brittany Castle each with two.
Oleynik also pulled down 11 rebounds while Stone grabbed nine boards.
For Prairie Home, Morton finished the game with 11 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Sydney Sells chipped in 10 points, two steals, two assists and one rebound while Taylor Zey added seven points, eight rebounds and one steal, Amanda Coffelt with six points, eight rebounds, two steals and two assists and Katlynn Watson with two points, three steals, two rebounds and one assist.
As for the Prairie Home boys, they had a great start against Otterville while trailing 11-9 at the end of the first quarter. However it was all Otterville after that while outscoring the Panthers 18-4 in the second to go up 29-13.
