The Boonville Pirates soccer team had every chance last night in the season opener against the Oak Grove Panthers.
While trailing 1-0 at the half on a goal at the 25th minute, the Pirates had plenty of time to tie the game if not take the lead with 40 minutes left in the game. Unfortunately for Boonville, the Panthers scored yet another goal at the 47th minute to win the game by a score of 2-0.
Boonville soccer coach Tim Brown said his team missed a great chance to take the lead early on but then had trouble breaking down the Panthers’ defense for the remainder of the match by only creating a handful of quality chances. “I thought the defense played well and were organized and communicative, but a couple of lapses during the transition cost us.”
Oak Grove also finished the match out-shooting Boonville 23-10 and had six shots on goal compared to just five for the Pirates.
