To move up in the North Central Missouri Conference, or at least to keep the No. 4 spot, the Boonville Lady Pirates basketball team had to win last night’s game on the road against the Marshall Lady Owls.
Having already beaten the Lady Owls earlier in the season at home by double figures, the Lady Pirates looked to be a good bet to come out of the game with a victory.
However a slow start in which Boonville scored only six points in the first quarter put the series sweep against Marshall in jeopardy. So after playing to a 23-23 tie in the first half, the Lady Pirates overcame its ineffectiveness on the offensive end by outscoring Marshall 35-17 in the second half for a 58-40 victory.
While the win improved Boonville’s record to 13-6 overall and 6-3 in the NCMC, head coach Tara Brackman said the girls played well as a team against Marshall.
As for the scoring in the game, English tallied 33 points to go along with her 39 on Monday. She also had six rebounds, four steals and two assists. Pfeiffer, meanwhile, chipped in 10 points, five rebounds and four assists. Mackenzie Greis added seven points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal, Maria Imhoff with three points, three rebounds and two steals, Paige Friedrich also with three points, seven rebounds and one steal, TaShonda Walker with two points, three rebounds and three steals, Marie Gentry and Emily Smith each with two rebounds and Sydney Monteer with one rebound.
Of course the news wasn’t quite as good for the Boonville girls junior varsity basketball team, who lost to Marshall 43-25.
The Lady Pirates, dropping to 4-9 overall and 4-5 in the NCMC, played Marshall to a 12-12 tie at the half but was outscored 31-13 in the second half to suffer the loss.
Stephanie Markes and Whittni Ereri each had 10 points in the game for Marshall while Cynthia Ruders chipped in nine points.
For Boonville, Hailey Jones tossed in eight points, Lacey Duncan six, Emily Smith four, Kayce Scott three and Marie Gentry and Sheridan Potter each with two.
