Boonville’s Senior Legion baseball team may have dropped all four games over the weekend in the Sedlia Tournament, but if you consider what they were up against while playing teams with 19-year-olds it wasn’t as bad as it seemed.
While dropping a 3-2 decision Friday night against Moberly, who advanced all the way to the championship game, Boonville battled for 4 1/2 innings in the second game against Sedalia on Saturday before losing by a score of 10-7. Then, in the third game later that night, Boonville fell to the Kansas City Hi Boys Post 340 by a score of 10-7. Of course Sunday’s game was no better as Boonville suffered its fourth loss in as many games 7-1.
Although results from Friday’s and Sunday’s games were not available as of press time today, the game on Saturday against Sedalia was back and forth with Boonville getting on the scoreboard first with one run in the top-half of the third on a single by Shawn Bruce and a ground out for an RBI by Will Parker.
Of course it was pretty much all Sedalia after that with one run in the bottom-half of the third and five again in the fifth to go up by a score of 6-1.
However, in the top-half of the sixth, Boonville struck again with three runs on two walks, one error and a two-RBI single by Nick Skelton to cut the lead to two at 6-4. Meanwhile, after Sedalia plated four more runs in its half of the sixth to push the lead to six at 10-4, Boonville came back and tacked on three more runs in the seventh on two walks, a single by Jesse Monk and a RBI-single by Will Parker to end the scoring.
Adam Eckles was the winning pitcher in the game for Sedalia while Evan Kaiser took the loss for Boonville.
Nate Morenz led all hitters in the game for Sedalia with two singles, one double and two RBIs.
For Boonville, Nick Skelton had a single, double and two RBIs.
In the game Saturday night against the Kansas City Hi Boys Post 340, Boonville again had to play from behind after surrendering two runs in the first and eight again in the fifth to trail 10-1. Meanwhile, in the bottom-half of the fifth, Boonville scored its only run of the ballgame when Jesse Monk was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on the single by Chad Oser and then scored on a balk.
Shane Noland was the winning pitcher in the game for Kansas City Hi Boys Post 340 while Dustin Ray took the loss for Boonville.
Kansas City Hi Boys Post 340 also out-hit Boonville 7-1, with Christian Velez collecting a single, double and one RBI. Nick Herron had two singles and one RBI.
Chad Oser had the only hit in the game for Boonville, being a single.
Boonville’s Senior Legion baseball team will host Moberly in a doubleheader on Sunday, July 6th at Twillman Field in Harley Park starting at 6 p.m.
