A game of spurts. That’s how Pilot Grove boys basketball coach Rick Grunden described last night’s sectional game against the Bosworth Bulldogs at Sedalia Smith-Cotton High School.
While both teams had their share of runs, the Tigers used a 10-2 run early in the fourth quarter to beat Bosworth 67-54.

And by winning by 13 to improve to 26-3 on the season, Pilot Grove will now advance to the quarterfinal round of the state tournament to face  LaPlata, a 59-53 win over Meadville, on Saturday at Missouri Valley College in Marshall starting at 2:45 p.m.

Commenting on last night’s game against Bosworth, Coach Grunden said his team didn’t look their best throughout most of this game but the effort was never lacking.

“My kids weren’t happy with how they played, but they were pleased to win,” stated Grunden. “I give a lot of credit to Bosworth, they came out and played with a lot of heart and soul. In the end, my boys overcame and won the battle. We have lots of work ahead of us to get ready for LaPlata on Saturday.”

As for the scoring in the game for Pilot Grove, Jacob Schuster tossed in 23 points while Zach Glenn had 19 and Colby Kraus with 10. Brett Twenter chipped in seven while Aaron Schuster added six and Taylor Glenn with two.

For Bosworth, Tylor Clark had 18, Vince Bruce 15 and Jacob Galbrecht with 11.
